Successfull 2011 Season
Our 2011 season ended with our annual Friends and Family Appreciation BBQ, January 14. Attendance estimated at between 80 & 100 attended the event, consisting of members, family, neighboring land owners and hunt club managers, local law enforcement officers with both the NC Wildlife Resources Commission and the Columbus County Sheriff's Department, with special guests, NCWRC Commissionar Steve Windham and Sheriff Chris Batten. Our meal consisted of a Whole Hog Pig Picking, prepared by Deputy Huntmaster, Jimmy Cox and a vast assortment of sides and deserts prepared by our members and spouses. All get togethers are special to me, but, this year was extra special. The 12 year old son of one of our members took his first deer this season and endured the traditional "First Deer" ritual, performed by me at the time of harvest. He was presented with a trophy at this event. What's extra special about that, you ask? Well, I was able to present an identical trophy to his dad, who has also endured the "First Deer" ritual, performed by me, 23 years earlier, back in 1988. Additional trophies were awarded to Mr. Jimmy Cox for Adult Big Buck, his son, Justin Cox for Youth Big Buck, Dutch Baker for Most Missed Shots and Ms. Wendy Dorman for Top Chef. This event, was the same as our 2011 season, A BOOMING SUCCESS, thanks to the efforts of the greatest bunch of members and family supporters I have ever had the pleasure of hunting with. THANK YOU one and all.
